BENGALURU: The increasing number of fire accidents in the city has become a matter of concern for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), especially after the Attibele firecracker tragedy and the Koramangala pub fire. In the light of this, the BBMP has decided to implement new rules for hotels, pubs and bars.
There are more than 2,000 hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants in Bengaluru, but most of these business establishments lack fire safety measures. The BBMP has already raided several pubs, bars and restaurants and issued notices to more than 500 such establishments for failing to maintain fire safety and it has closed down 50 establishments.
Palike Special Commissioner Trilok Chandra recently held a meeting with the hotels associations, pubs, bars and restaurants associations and discussed the importance of maintaining fire safety at business establishments.
Hotels, pubs, bar restaurants have been asked to contact the Fire and Emergency Service and adopt the following measures:.
The new rules of the BBMP are as follows:
- A fireman should be appointed compulsorily in every hotel, and the hotel staff should be trained in fire fighting with the fire extinguishing.
- 2. Every hotel staffer should be trained in fire safety.
- 3. Water jet-type smoke-free machines used for firefighting should be made mandatory.
- 4. Water pipes should be mandatory kept.
- 5. Establishment must be certified by the BBMP regarding firefighting training.
- 6. Firefighting equipment should be placed in five places of the hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
- 7. The licence will be cancelled if pubs are being run on terraces.
- 8. Fire brigade should give a certificate about fire safety.
- 9. Thin metal and flammable materials should not be kept in hotels.
- 10. The licensing rules of the BBMP must be followed compulsorily
- All these rules should be adopted by every hotel, pub, and bar restaurant within three months. If it is not applied, appropriate action will be taken.
