BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday sealed Rockline Mall in Dasarahalli zone over non-payment of property tax amounting to Rs 11.51 crore for the period between 2011 and 2022-23.
The action was taken due to the mall’s failure to pay the dues even after being served a demand notice (DN). However, the mall authorities claimed that the action was taken without any prior notice.
Rockline Mall was cordoned off today under the leadership of Dasarahalli zone senior officers. Zonal Commissioner Preeti Gehlot, Zonal Joint Commissioner Balasekhar, Dasarahalli, Zonal Officers, revenue officials, police personnel, BMP Marshals and other officers were present at the spot.
A team led by Gehlot arrived at the mall early on Wednesday morning before the arrival of any customer and sealed the establishment. The BBMP locked the main entrance and exit gates of the shopping mall.
Zonal Joint Commissioner Balashekar said this is the only mall in Dasarahalli zone and owes Rs 11.56 crore. “A notice was issued last August and the matter had reached the court which directed reassment of the dues. As per the direction, the tax dues were reassessed. The mall authorities have not paid taxes since 2011. On the direction of the court, they paid up Rs 1.92 crore and given a cheque for another Rs 26 lakh”.
The officer added that action is also being taken to recover dues of Rs 12 lakh from Mohan theatre. He also said furniture store Ikea has paid up Rs 4 crore in tax dues.
Palike Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil, who was also present at the spot, said the BBMP will publish the list of top defaulters on its website.
