BBMP replies to Lokayukta notice after elderly woman’s death in stray dog attack

BENGALURU: The Lokayukta had issued a notice to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) following the death of an elderly woman in an attack by a pack of stray dogs at the Jalahalli Air Force campus, taking suo moto cognizance of the incident.

The Lokayukta had posed several questions to the BBMP and sought a response to its notice. The Lokayukta asked what measures have been taken to prevent the stray dog menace and what precautions were taken at the place of the incident.

The BBMP has now replied to the Lokayukta’s notice stating that at least 111 street dogs were identified in the Jalahalli Air Force campus area. All those dogs were recommended for sterilization surgery. A compensation of Rs 1 lakh was given to the family of the deceased elderly woman. The deceased elderly woman was not a resident of Bengaluru, but had come to her son-in-law’s house.

It also reported on the measures taken so far to control street dogs in Bengaluru, as per Vikas Surlakar, Special Commissioner of the BBMP.
