BENGALURU: The Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV) organised a massive protest and mega awareness campaign in Bengaluru when they vandalised many sign boards of commercial establishments with English names. After that, the police registered a case and the KRV activists were arrested.
But now, after the government made it mandatory to have 60 per cent of space for Kannada on sign boards, the Palike itself is pulling down name boards of commercial establishment that do not have signboards or name boards without 60 per cent Kannada display.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staff could be seen breaking down English name boards of shops in the city. The Palike has already closed many shops on MG Road and Brigade Road in Bengaluru that have not installed Kannada boards.
Meanwhile, a video of showing, the corporation gangmen pulling down name boards of commercial establishments is making the rounds on social media. Pro-Kannada activists have demanded on social media that this should be implemented everywhere in the state.
