BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is preparing to clear encroachment along rajakaluve. The corporation has listed the cases in which courts have stayed the clearance of encroachments on rajakaluve and plans to seek lifting of the stay orders.
About 70 encroachments have been marked in RR Nagar zone, including 33 new encroachment cases and 37 old encroachment cases. Now, the BBMP officials are planning to restart the clearance clearance drive after getting the stay orders vacated.
Among the alleged encroachments is Darshan’s residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar which was allegedly built on encroached rajakaluve land, but the actor had got a stay order from a court.
In 2016, the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led Congress government directed the BBMP to clear the encroaching along rajakaluves. The buildings listed by the BBMP were built on the primary canal and encroaching on the rajakaluves.
According to government records, Darshan’s residence in RR Nagar was found to be built in the buffer zone of the primary canal. Darshan had secured an injunction from the High Court before the eviction operation was carried out.
Palike officials said that there is no clarity on the duration of the restraining order and said they will approach the court to get the stay vacated after verification and carry out the clearance drive.
Darshan’s residence is in Ideal Homes in Rajarajeshwari Nagar where the Shamanur Shivashankarappa Hospital is also located and the BBBMP is planning to evict encroachments on 70 locations. Darshan may not be released from the murder case anytime soon and the BBMP will hold a meeting in this regard this week and take a final decision on whether to evict the encroachments in the pending cases.
Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, “The status of an individual does not matter, whether they belong to the upper or middle class; we will evicting the encroachments. There was a stay order, so we did not act. We will get the stay orders vacated and carry out the operations. We will see how many stay orders can be vacated.and then we will take action”.
