BBMP plans mini-grounds, gym and parks in areas cleared of encroachment

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has planned to construct mini grounds, gyms, and parks in the areas have been cleared of encroachments in the city.

After heavy rain in September 2022, the BBMP cleared a few of the encroached areas. Now the officials have decided to make a mini-park, gym and children’s playground in the buffer zones next to the cleared spaces near rajakaluves.

The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) developed civic amenity sites in Padmanabhanagr, Basavanagudi, and K R Puram, which were later transferred to the BBMP, but were allegedly occupied by private individuals. Many cases involving such properties were in court and a judgment was recently issued after many years of trial. After the judgment, the BBMP has decided to construct mini-grounds, gyms and children’s play areas, footpath with, seating arrangements with LED lights at these sites.

“We have planned to do it in the buffer zones near Banaswadi and in many other places. This is an experimental phase. More than beautification, there is no place in the city for people to gather and spend some quality time, which is why we have planned this”, said BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath.
