BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) revenue office and anganwadi run by it at Prakash Nagar ward in Rajajinagar are functioning in the dark as power supply has been snapped over unpaid dues. This has forced officials and anganwadis to function in the dark.
The revenue office is now drawing electricity from a nearby Nandini milk booth as the BBMP reportedly owes Rs 1.8 lakh in power dues for the revenue office and the anganwadi. The revenue office and the anganwadi are housed in the same building.
The anganwadi staff are finding it difficult to conduct activities for the children with no power. A teacher said, “We have been informing the joint commissioner about the power dues, now power supply has been disconnected as the bills haven’t been paid”.
“The BBMP owes power dues for the last six months and the revenue office is functioning by drawing power from a Nandini booth. But the children at the anganwadi are finding it difficult”, said Vinayak, a social worker.
“It is really shameful that the BBMP has not paid power dues. The civic body spends crores on other projects, but can’t pay up power bills. The chief commissioner should wake up and set right matters”, said a local resident.
