BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is taking action against property owners in Bengaluru for non-payment of property tax dues.
Mantri Mall is among those facing trouble, with dues of over Rs 9 crore. The BBMP has also issued notices to over 2,500 property owners in the West Zone for not paying up taxes.
The BBMP has sealed a hotel with a convention centre in Majestic for non-payment of taxes of Rs 81 lakh (revised tax) and also planned to seize properties for which taxes have not been paid. Archana, Zonal Commissioner, West Zone, stated, “We have completed property attachment and summoning processes; now we’re sealing properties”.
Regarding BBMP’s previous closure of Mantri Mall for pending dues, she explained that the mall obtained a stay order from the court which ordered the BBMP to reopen it. Despite the court order, in case the BBMP wants to issue notice; they should get permission from the BBMP chief commissioner. “We have informed the chief commissioner, and after serving another notice, the mall will be shut down, likely within two to three days”.
