BENGALURU: People coming to the City for work mostly prefer to stay in paying guest accommodations (PGs) rather than living alone in rented houses. Not just working professionals, but also students from other districts and states also opt for PGs.

However, many of these PGs tend to flout BBMP rules rather than follow them. In the wake of several complaints about the inconveniences being faced in PGs and violations of rules, the BBMP has issued a set of 10 guidelines for PGs.

The rules include obtaining the BBMP’s permit, permission for PGs on specific roads, installation of CCTVs for the safety of guests, cleanliness in kitchens, and so on.

The number of people staying in PGs has increased due to safety concerns. Many prefer PGs over living alone in the city. Following numerous complaints about the inconveniences and rule violations in PGs, BBMP has put forth 10 guidelines, said Vikas Kishore Suralkar, Special Commissioner of BBMP, who is overseeing the implementation of these rules..

“The guidelines include obtaining a licence from BBMP, permission for PGs in specific areas, installation of CCTV cameras for guest safety, and maintaining hygiene in food preparation. The BBMP has given notice to over 2,000 PGs in Bengaluru to follow the rules and obtain licences. Despite the notices and deadlines, over 300 PGs have been sealed by BBMP for failing to comply with the rules”, he noted.
