BENGALURU: After a 10-year-old boy was killed when an old, rusty gate at the Malleswaram ground fell on him on Sunday when the boy had come to play, it has come to light that this is not the first time; the same gate had collapsed six months ago.

Public TV obtained exclusive footage and photos of the incident, revealing BBMP West Zone Commissioner and local engineers’ negligence. Some people brought it to the attention of local engineers with videos, but no action had been taken up.

Despite previous warnings, contractors welded the gate and painted it without repairing it properly. The gate was in a hazardous condition, and local engineers just ignored it completely. The cement and the tiles had come off, the gate was in a precarious condition, lacking quality in the repair work.

The BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said a committee has been formed to investigate, and action will be taken based on the report.
