BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has identified 226 flood-prone spots across the eight zones in preparation for the monsoon.
Although the monsoon season is a couple of months away, the city has been witnessing intermittent summer showers. For the last two to three days, rain has caused havoc in the city with roads flooded in some areas. In order to tackle such situations during the monsoon, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath held a meeting with zonal commissioners, joint commissioners and engineers to discuss the issue. The Palike will also assign staff during the election period for rain water management and to take preventive action.
The BBMP officials have identified 226 flood-prone spots in all eight zones of the city and are taking measures to prevent water stagnation in these areas. Also, Rs 2,000 crore has been earmarked to remove silt from rajakaluves. As per the BBMP, there are 61 flood-prone areas in the East zone, 40 each in the West and South zones, 11 in Yelahanka zone, 24 each in Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli zones, 23 in RR Nagar and three in Dasarahalli.
“We have identified 226 flood-prone spots and informed the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). They have developed a model and a chart on the rainfall pattern. We will take further measures based on their inputs. We will clean silt from rajakaluves before monsoon starts in the city”, said Tushar Giri Nath.
