BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) has on numerous occasions come under the scanner for irregularities, scams and substandard work. Now, in what may seem to be another major scam, the asphalt laid on several roads by BBMP has been peeling off, and potholes are back at many places.
Public TV conducted an exclusive reality check on the quality of roads including 1st, 3rd and 4th Cross roads in Nanjarasappa Layout in Govindaraj Nagar.
The roads that were relaid in Nanjarasappa Layout and Chandra Layout have started developing potholes, while the asphalt is peeling off due to poor work, but the BBMP engineers are not ready to accept that the work has been of poor quality.
Just three days ago, the BBMP workers patched the potholes in this entire area. But within three days of completion of the work, the whole asphalt has peeled off due to poor quality of work. The asphalt mixture was simply filled in the pothole and scattered all over. The BBMP officials and local MLAs did not even inspect the work, locals says.
A local, Mallikarjun, alleged that the BBMP laid the road just two weeks ago and now it had completely come off. “Not only vehicles, even people cannot walk on the road because it is slippery. The Palike officials are doing this not for the benefit of the public, but just to make money. The civic agencies dig up the new roads for laying pipelines, cables, checking septic tanks on the road. They get grants from the government anyway, but what about the citizens? Moreover, it is a residential area. If there is any untoward incident, who will be responsible for it?”
