BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun digitising property records, seeding them with GPS, and has so far completed faceless digitalisation of 21 lakh kahatas in the city.
The Palike initially tested the online e-khata digitalisation with 2,500 properties under gram panchayats and is now rolling it out across the city. It will also soon digitise the GPS records connected to the properties also.
As part of the effort, BBMP personnel will visit each property to capture the GPS information. This will be the unique identity of each property and is important for faceless e-khatas and other online transactions.
The civic body has also been sending out SMSes to property owners which state, “BBMP is creating e-khata for every property. The GPS of property is mandatory to get e-khata. BBMP staff will visit you in a few days to capture your property GPS. Please keep copy of your property tax receipt ready and cooperate with BBMP staff so that GPS is tagged correctly to your property. The property GPS will be the Bhu Aadhaar of the property and uses as such”.
The GPS-tagging of properties can help prevent fabrication of documents, stealing of properties. As regards flats, though the GPS location will be the same, other details will be recorded to give it a separate identity. Once the property records are digitised, owners can get e-khatas by visiting the Palike’s revenue offices.
