BENGALURU: The vice president of the BBMP Contractors’ Association, R Ambikapathy, from whose property the Income Tax Department had recovered Rs 42 crore in cash, died after a cardiac arrest at a corporate hospital in the city on Monday.
Income Tax (I-T) officials seized a cash stash worth Rs 42 crore on October 16 from the premises belonging to R Ambikapathy at Ganesha Block in Sultanpalya, Bengaluru. The raids had sparked off a heated debate, with the BJP alleging that the money was part of Congress’s illegal fund meant for campaigning in poll-bound states.
It is said that Ambikapathy was suffering from mental stress after the huge amount of money was seized from his house. The body of Ambikapathy has been taken home from the hospital by family members. The last rites are expected to be conducted on Tuesday.
