BENGALURU: Ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival on August 27, the BBMP Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao held a meeting with zonal officials to review preparations.

The Chief Commissioner emphasized the importance of promoting eco-friendly Ganesha idols and appealed to citizens to use idols made from environment-friendly materials.

The use of Plaster of Paris (POP) for making Ganesh idols has been completely banned, and officials have been instructed to file cases against those who violate this rule. To facilitate the immersion of Ganesh idols, over 40 lakes and separate immersion tanks (Kalyanis) have been designated for this purpose.

The BBMP has made arrangements for barricades, skilled divers, electric lighting and cranes at these immersion points. CCTV cameras will be installed and additional police personnel will be deployed to ensure security.

Mobile immersion tanks will also be stationed at key locations and junctions in each ward to facilitate the immersion of small Ganesha idols at homes.
