BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is facing public outrage for blocking citizens’ social media accounts after they reported issues on the page. Citizens who tweeted about their grievances to BBMP’s X (Twitter) handle were shocked to find their accounts blocked.
One such instance is of a woman named Neetu, who tweeted about a road issue and tagged BBMP’s X handle. Instead of responding to her query, BBMP blocked her account. This is not an isolated incident, as several others have also reported having their accounts blocked after reaching out to BBMP.
The BBMP’s IT cell’s actions have sparked widespread outrage, with citizens expressing their disappointment and frustration. Many are criticizing the BBMP for its actions, saying it’s shameful and unacceptable.
This comes after the Deputy Commissioner and BBMP Chief Commissioner had encouraged citizens to report their grievances through social media platforms. The BBMP’s actions have raised questions about its commitment to citizen engagement and responsiveness.”
Ramakrishna, a Bengaluru resident, said, “BBMP is targeting people for commenting on its poor service. They should behave in a friendly manner with the public and accept their complaints. Citizens are expressing their outrage and some people are scared to come forward to question the Palike. It should always be ready to address the problems, such kind of development is not good”.
Narendra Murthy, another resident, said, “They cannot block all comments or public response on social media. We see accidents, potholes everyday. If they block complainants, the public will raise their voice against them. It is their responsibility to take action on complaints. If they really do so, what response will they get from the public”.
