DHARWAD: A consumer court here has imposed a fine of Rs 85,177 on a nationalised bank for not honouring a cheque written in Kannada.
Vadirajacharya Inamdar, an English lecturer, had written out a cheque in Kannada to withdraw money from his savings account. However, the Haliyal branch of the nationalised bank refused to honour it.
Following this, Inamdar approached the consumer court. The court found deficiency of service on the part of the bank and imposed a fine on it.
