BENGALURU: Months ahead of the Lok Sabha election next year, the Backward Classes Commission is expected to present the caste census report to the state government on November 24.
The caste census report is expected to cause a storm in the political circles and have a negative bearing on the Lok Sabha polls for the ruling Congress, according to intelligence reports. A detailed report on the pros and cons has been submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, sources said.
The dominat Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities are likely to strongly oppose the caste census report and are expected to intensify their agitation. Some Congress leaders too may extend their support to the protest and may cause fractures within the ruling Congress too, it is being said.
While the caste census report may cause friction between communities, it is expected that the Other Backward Castes (OBCs) may lean towards the Congress, but the Lingayats may turn away and the Vokkaligas may get polarised. The intelligence report also says the dominant communities may also lose the benefits of the Congress guarantees.
The intelligence report also warns of protests by leaders of prominent groups and organisations and the success of the guarantee schemes may be wiped out.
