BENGALURU: In order to make the showcase Church Street in the heart of the city more pedestrian-friendly, the traffic police have barred the entry of goods vehicles and autorickshaws in the street. Violation will attract fines.
The Cubbon Park traffic police have put up barricades and posters restricting the movement of goods vehicles and autorickshaws. The traffic police say movement of such vehicles hindered pedestrian movement and also caused traffic jams.
Church Street sees huge rush of visitors especially on weekends, including local and foreigners. The curbs on autorickshaws and goods vehicles is expected to reduce congestion and prevent traffic jams. The traffic police have said that violation of the rules will attract a fine of Rs 500, they have warned.
