BENGALURU: The Autorickshaw Drivers’ Association has started a letter campaign addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, opposing the permission given to operate bike taxis. The association claims that the state government’s failure to regulate bike taxis is causing problems for auto drivers.

The letter urges the central government to intervene, citing concerns about public safety and the potential increase in road accidents. It also highlights that bike taxis are more prone to accidents and that the state government has the authority to regulate public transport.

The association argues that allowing bike taxis will harm the livelihoods of auto and taxi drivers who follow regulations and pay taxes. It estimates that around five lakh families of autorickshaw drivers in the state could face economic hardship as a result.
