BENGALURU: An autorickshaw driver has been arrested for stealing 100 gms of gold ornaments from a youth who had fled home after an argument. The police have arrested the autorickshaw driver, Saleem a.k.a Anil, and recovered the gold worth Rs 6.5 lakh.
The youth had left home after he was scolded by his father not to mix with his friends. He boarded an autorickshaw from Basavanagar to head to Majestic and on the way, kept all his valuables, including the gold ornaments, in a bag. This was noticed by the autorickshaw driver.
When they reached near Ramesh Nagar, the youth stopped the autorickshaw to attend nature’s call when the driver snatched the bag with the valuables and fled. The youth reached Majestic in another autorickshaw and went to Puri in Odisha by train.
After his parents lodged a missing person’s complaint with the HAL police, the youth was traced to the Jagannath temple in Puri and reunited with his parents. When the parents questioned him about the gold ornaments, he revealed that he had been robbed by the autorickshaw driver.
The police later arrested the auto driver from MS Palya near Vidyaranyapuram and recovered the stolen gold ornaments.
