CHIKKABALLAPUR: An autorickshaw driver attempted self-immolation by dousing himself in petrol near the Sowmya Eye Hospital here on Monday. He was immediately shifted to a local hospital and from there to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru where he is undergoing treatment.
The self-immolation act of Girish (24), a resident of Chokkahalli was caught on a CCTV camera. He can be seen standing in a deserted place behind a building and setting himself on fire. Immediately he ran toward the main road screaming in pain and appealing for help.
Some locals immediately rushed to his aid, poured water in him and rushed him to a local hospital in an autorickshaw. His friends suspect that he may have attempted to end his life over a failed love affair or due to online gambling.
