Autorickshaw driver assaulted for ferrying Hindu girl in moral policing incident

MANGALURU: In yet another instance of moral policing in Dakshina Kannada district, a Muslim youth was assaulted a a group of Hindu youths near the Dharmastala bus stand for ferrying a Hindu girl in his autorickshaw.

Mohammed Ashiq (22), a resident of Ujire in Belthangady taluk, was at the autorickshaw stand when a student of the SDM college in Bengaluru boarded his autorickshaw around 9 pm on Wednesday. The girl was to travel to Bengaluru by a private bus from Dharmastala and hired the autorickshaw.

When Ashiq was taking out the luggage near the Dharmastala bus stand, a group of youths on four motorcycles arrived there and questioned him where he was taking a Hindu girl at night, abused him in foul language and assaulted him.

Ashiq was admitted to the Belthangady government hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Dharmastala police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the attackers.
