BENGALURU: A few days ago, people were seen queuing up at an ATM on 15th Main Road in HSR Layout after it started dispensing five times the cash they sought to withdraw due to a technical issue with the machine. However, it was later rectified.
Some individuals withdrawing Rs 2,000 received Rs 10,000 while others received Rs 20,000 in place of Rs 4,000. The issue was reported on Tuesday evening and people took advantage of the situation, withdrawing large amounts of cash before the ATM kiosk was closed.
One individual got Rs 1,10,000 for Rs 22,000. He immediately informed the local police and bank officials, who arrived at the scene and rectified the issue. Ramesh has offered to return the excess amount to the bank.
The bank officials have said that the technical issue was caused by a problem at the head office. The bank staff has also sent an email to the respective cardholders about regarding the excess cash dispensed at the ATM, requesting them to provide information. The bank is taking steps to recover the excess amount from those who benefited from the technical error.
