BENGALURU: In an alleged case of love jihad, a man who was blackmailing a woman with whom he had a relationship earlier, was handed over to the Marathalli police by Bajrang Dal activists.
The woman, hailing from Assam, was working in a private company in Bellandur. She was introduced to one Raju by her friend Afsana. Raju later turned out to be Farooq.
The two got into a relationship and just when wedding preparations were to be made, Farooq revealed that he was a Muslim and asked the woman to convert to Islam. She declined saying that her parents would not accept her marriage.
Later on, the woman got married to someone else, but Farooq started blackmailing her to leave her husband or else he would publicise their intimate photos.
“I came to Bengaluru two years ago and was working with an e-commerce firm. My friend Afsana gave me Raju’s number saying that he’s a Hindu. When I came to know he’s Muslim, I left him and married a person from my village. After that, he started blackmailing me”, she said.
The woman then sought the help of VHP-Bajrang Dal and the activists produced Farooq before the Marathalli police. The woman also thanked the activists for coming to her rescue. A case has been registered and Farooq is in custody.
