KOLAR: Close on the heels of an incident where four Punjab PWD officials were seen in a video overseeing the laying of a road even while it was raining, a similar instance has been recorded in the district. The asphalt on a road between two villages started peeling off just one hour after it was laid.
Relaying of a 6-km stretch of road between DK Halli and Byatarayanahalli in Bangarpet taluk was approved under the MLALAD scheme and the work was awarded to a contractor from Mulbagal. Ignoring the continuous rain over the last few days, the contractor went ahead and carried out the road work.
However, the layer of asphalt started peeling off just one hour later. Protesting against the substandard work, the state president of the Simha Garjane Vedike, Prasanna Kumar Swami, staged a novel protest by conducting a puja on the road. Though the gram panchayat had asked for the road relaying work to be taken up after the rains subside, the contractor has gone ahead with it and carried out substandard work, he alleged.
The Vedike has also demanded that the contractor should be blacklisted and the bill for the road work should not be cleared.
