DAVANAGERE: Shanthi Sagara, also called Sulekere, the second largest lake built in Asia and the lifeline of the two districts of Davanagere and Chitradurga, is now overflowing, bringing much cheer to locals. The lake is situated at Sulekere in Channagiri taluk.
On Thursday, people came in droves to witness the lake overflowing while some fishermen also came prepared in the hope of a good catch.
Channagiri and the Malnad region have been experiencing incessant rain over the last few weeks, leading to the Sulekere overflowing.
Some farmlands around the lake have also been inundated. In the light of this, the Bhadra Nala sub-division of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam has issued orders restricting the movement of people and cattle near the lake.
