BENGALURU: Bengaluru owes a great debt to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who initiated numerous development projects in the city to take it to where it stands today.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Singh made significant contributions to Bengaluru’s development. One notable achievement was the inauguration of the Bengaluru International Airport in 2008.

Within three years of the airport’s inauguration, he launched the city’s first metro line, Namma Metro, which began operations from Baiyappanahalli to MG Road on October 20, 2011. These projects have greatly impacted the city’s infrastructure and connectivity, making Bengaluru an even more attractive place to live and work.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday also recalled that Manmohan Singh had been invited to inaugurate the Ambedkar School of Economics in Bengaluru in 2017 and on another occasion to discuss the economy of the state.
