Armed robbery at KR Market jewellery store; Man arrested from Chennai for stealing silver

BENGALURU: An armed gang of four members stole gold, silver and cash while flashing machetes and holding a jeweller’s family at gunpoint at R T Street in KR Market around 4 pm on Friday.

The incident occurred when the merchant Nagaraj and his mother were at the jewellery store. The robbers, who spoke Hindi, threatened Nagaraj and his mother, tied up their hands and legs, and assaulted them.

The owner of the house, Nagaraj, said in a statement, “Around 4 pm on Friday, four people came to the store armed with guns and machetes, stole cash, jewellery and other valuables and fled. They spoke in Hindi, threatened us and asked us to hand over our belongings. We were panicked at that moment and gave them everything”.

A case has been registered at the KR Market police station, and the police are investigating the incident.

In a seperate case, a man was arrested from Chennai for stealing 19 kg of silver worth Rs 10 lakhs from his friend’s gold store in Bengaluru.

The arrested is Darshan and the police have recovered the stolen silver. The thief came to the store along with two accomplices, distracted the workers and stole the silver. The Halasuru Gate police arrested him.

The accused and the victim were partners in the business, but had a fallout. The accused came with two accomplices to take revenge and took away about 19.800 kg of silver bars and sheets when the shop owner was out. The theft was, however, captured on CCTV camera.
