UDUPI: Member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Khushbu Sundar, who arrived here on Wednesday evening, met Udupi superintendent of police Hakay Akshay Macchindra on Thursday morning and sought information from him about the incident where a mobile phone was kept in the women’s washroom of a paramedical college to secretly film other girls.
The Udupi police have taken custody of three mobile phones belonging to the three girls named in the FIR and sent it to the forensic laboratory in Bengaluru to recover the deleted videos. The college authorities had confiscated the mobile phones from the girls after the issue came to light.
Khushbu, who will spend the day in Udupi, was also scheduled to meet the college authorities and the girl students involved in the episode. Speaking to Public TV, Khushbu said no photo or video was found on the mobile phones and fake ones are doing the rounds on social media. “We have requested the police to send the ephones for forensic analysis. I appeal to the people not to share any fake videos which claim to be that of the Udupi girls”.
Khushbu said she was visiting Udupi in the interest of the students and refused to respond to political allegations. “It is more important to understand what the victims are going through and why such a thing happened. I am gathering information about what went wrong and where”, she stressed.
The NCW member said she is not here as a member of any political party. “After I get all the documents and record all statements, our investigation will proceed further. There was no spy camera in the washroom and the police have scanned the phones for 40 hours. Political parties can make whatever claims they want and people are free to hold protests, but none of these will influence our investigation”, she noted.
Meanwhile, students affiliated to the ABVP staged a protest at the martyrs’ memorial despite the rain, demanding a thorough investigation into the case and justice for the victim.
They demanded that the SP arrive at the spot and received their memorandum. In the melee, the police and students pushed around local MLA Yashpal Suvarna.
