BENGALURU: In a citizen-friendly measure, the state government will soon extend the anywhere registration of properties facility across the state. With this, registration of property, obtaining khata, etc can be done at any sub-registrar office.
So far, citizens had to approach designated sub-registrar offices for property registration, khata, revenue certificate, etc. Now, with anywhere registration, they can approach any sub-registrar office within a particular district. A pilot test was conducted in Tumakuru and Belagavi before extending it to other parts of the state.
Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said, “With the implementation of Kaveri-2 software, we have been able to reduce waiting time and discretion. We had also noticed that some people were not properly following the appointment system and we have now made it compulsory. We are bringing in some more changes to the system”.
“There have been several instances of land grab by creating fake documents and there have been many complaints. Due to this, the actual property owners had to spend decades fighting cases in courts. To prevent this, we have introduced a new measure wherein one of three types of identity proof have to be compulsorily produced. The first choice is Aadhaar since 99.9 per cent of people in the state have the IDs. Those anyone cannot produce Aadhaar, can give their passport or PAN cad as proof of identity. We hope this can bring down instances of fraudulent transactions”, he said.
The minister said this is being done to protect the ownership of properties and appealed to people not to view it as an inconvenience. “Of the 257 sub-registrar offices in the state, a rush of people is seen only in about 50 of the offices. There is not much work pressure or transactions in the remaining. To bring about a balance, from September 2, people can visit any sub-registrar office in their district and get their work done after taking online appointments. In February, we had conducted a pilot in Tumakuru and Belagavi. Our aim is to improve services with the use of technology”, the minister said.
There are 35 sub-registrar offices at the district level and 257 other sub-registrar offices across the state. With the new measure, citizens can save on time and will not have to wait in long queues and will save them of the hassle of delays. This will also reduce the burden on the sub-registrar offices.
