CHIKKAMAGALUR: The Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), commonly known as monkey fever, has claimed another victim in the district. The deceased was identified as Ratna (68) of Bintravalli village in Koppa taluk. With this, the death toll in the district has risen to four.
Ratna was suffering from high fever and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Manipal. Her blood test had confirmed monkey fever. However, she succumbed to the disease without responding to treatment.
Cases of monkey fever have been increasing in the district with eleven patients undergoing treatment in different hospitals. The cases are mostly from Koppa, NR Pura and Sringeri taluks. The health authorities are on vigil to prevent further spread of the disease.
