BENGALURU: Days after a BMTC bus driver attempted suicide alleging harassment by seniors, another driver attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at the Kengeri depot on Tuesday. This is the second such incident within a week’s time.
Driver Srinivas attempted suicide by consuming pesticide right in front of depot manager Dayanad. He was immediately shifted to the Rajarajeswari General Hospital where he is being treated in the ICU.
“Senior officials are not assigning duties to the staff and abuse them in foul language. Despite all these suicide attempts, the officials don’t seem to bother at all. We will stage a protest before the Transport Department and in front of the Transport Minister’s house”, said Jagadish, president of the KSRTC employees’ union.
Yogish, a former employee, has demanded action against the officials. As soon as employees started to gather at the hospital, the BMTC officials rushed there and inquired about Srinivas’ health.
On January 27, driver Ranganath of RR Nagar depot had attempted suicide and is still under treatment in hospital. In the last five months, three drivers have ended their lives while two have attempted suicide.
