BENGALURU: The government has come up with a plan to take the Anna Bhagya scheme to the elderly or vulnerable groups. Henceforth, BPL and APL card holders aged above 90 will get home delivery of Anna Bhagya scheme benefits. A pilot project has started in the state and the Food and Civil Supplies Department hopes the initiative will bring smiles on the faces of those living alone.
Department Commissioner Gyanendra Kumar, briefing about the pilot project, said the department will deliver the scheme benefits to the doors of BPL, APL card holders aged over 90 years. “A pilot project has started across the state and Anna Bhagya rice is being delivered to the doorsteps of single-member beneficiaries above 90 years of age”, he said.
As per data from the department, about 8,000 ration card holders have not taken rations in the last two to three months because they are unable to travel. “Hence, the department has started this door delivery and it is getting a great response. For this, the department has also developed an app called ‘Annasuvidha”, he added.
The elderly are happy with the new arrangement for Anna Bhagya rice delivery to their doorsteps and it has brought some relief form them. This helps a beneficiary is in a situation where they cannot move around, the commissioner explained.
