Angry he couldn’t travel during lockdown, techie burnt Kannada flag

BENGALURU: A techie who was arrested after he set a Kannada flag on fire on Sunday night at HSR Layout, has  revealed to the police that he was angry with them for not letting him travel during the lockdown. The accused has been identified as Amrithesh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Amritesh had studied at IIT Delhi and was working with an IT firm in Bengaluru. During questioning, he revealed that he set a Kannada flag on fire because the city police did not allow him to go to his native place during the Covid-19-induced lockdown in 2020.

Amritesh was supposed to go to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He had arrived with his luggage at the railway station, but the police started to clear the crowd during the pandemic.

On Sunday night, he was drunk when he recalled the incident and thought if he burned a Kannada flag, it would be on the news and the local police would get suspended.

On Sunday night, some locals passing by noticed him burning the flag and confronted him. They even informed the police. A case has been registered at HSR Layout police station.
