HUBBALLI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the indoor stadium of the KLE Technological University on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said he was blessed to be part of the golden jubilee celebration of KLE Society which is happening during the Amrit Mahotsav of the country and appreciated the contribution of the five ‘gurus’ who set up the KLE Education Society.
“I started my political journed when I was 16 years old. At a time when education was being commercialised, KLE Society came a beacon of hope and has been giving education to all sections including the poor”, he noted.
Shah also hoped that the indoor stadium, built at a cost of Rs 25 crore, will produce Olympic-level sportspersons. “Started in 1916, KLE has grown massively and it is laudable that it is providing free treatment at its 1,200-bed hospital. Several students from here are now settled in different parts of the world”, he said.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has huge hopes on the youths of the country, Shah advised them to read about the freedom fighters who fought for 90 years. “Today, nobody has to give up their life for freedom, but it is important to dedicate our lives for the country. We have pledged to take India to great heights”, he noted.
Shah also recalled Lala Lajpat Rai and the contributions of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal in reforming society, and also Field Marshal K M Kariappa on their birth anniversary.
Earlier in the day, Shah had a meeting with former CM B S Yediyurappa, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. He also wished the CM on the latter’s birthday.
Later, speaking to Public TV, KLE Society chairman and MP Prabhakar Kore said, “The BVB College has produced two Chief Ministers — Basavaraj Bommai and Jagadish Shettar. Infosys Foundation former chairperson Sudha Murty is also an alumna. Our students are in high positions across the world. About 25,000 engineering graduates are in respectable positions in society”.
“When Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Hubballi earlier, he had set three challenges for me and promoting sports was one of them. As part of that, we have constructed the indoor stadium”, he added.
