Ambedkar portrait found defaced with garland of footwear in Bidar village

The Deputy SP removed the garland of footwear and placed a garland of roses on the portrait.

BIDAR: A portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar on a pole was found disfigured by unidentified persons with a garland of footwear at Vilaspura village in Bidar taluk on Friday morning. The portrait was affixed on a pole just outside the village.

As tensions mounted, Deputy SP Pradeep Gunti visited the village, removed the garland of footwear and placed a garland of flowers on the portrait. The officer also spoke to the villagers and calmed the situation.

Dalit youths staged a protest in the village.

Dalit organisations have expressed their anger over the defacement and have demanded the police to arrest the miscreants. The Janwada police have registered a case and are investigating.
