All set for polling day in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of polling in its jurisdiction on May 10.

There are 28 Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru and a total of 97,15,109 registered voters which includes 50,24,665 men, 46,86,813 women, 1,761 Others and 1,760 in-service voters. There will be 1,43,536 young voters for the May 10 Assembly election.

There will be 8,802 polling booths including 1654 in BBMP central, 1,897 in South, 1,981 in north and 3,083 booths in City. There will be about 300 themes of booths including pink booths, for the physically challenged, green booths, digital booths and for the youth community.

In every Assembly constituency, there will be five pink booths to encourage participation of women voters. There will also be booths with different concepts of defence services, sports, youths, etc and the BBMP is aiming at achieving 75 per cent voting in Bengaluru this time.

Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said mustering will be held on Tuesday from 7 am for polling staff and 37,000 officials have been drafted for the purpose. “They will stay overnight at the polling booths and after polling, they will deposit the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at the demustering centres. Later, the EVMs will be sent to the four counting centres in the city under police protection”, he said.

Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Dayanand said all polling officials have been given training twice. “Arrangements for buses and police personnel have been made and all basic facilities are provided at the polling booths. There are seven Assembly constituencies in the jurisdiction of the ADEO Bengaluru Urban and the counting of votes will be held at the St Joseph’s College. All the neccesary equipment will be handed over to the polling officials after a final briefing on Tuesday afternoon and they will reach the polling booths by 4 pm”, he added.
