BENGALURU: The state government has made it mandatory for all higher education institutions, including degree colleges and universities, to install CCTV cameras on their premises.
The decision has been taken to curb incidents of ragging, drug abuse and sexual harassment. The Department of Higher Education has instructed all government, aided and private colleges, polytechnics and universities under its purview to install CCTV cameras.
The main reasons behind this decision are:
- To monitor and prevent ragging incidents.
- To keep a check on drug abuse and sale of drugs on campus.
- To monitor and prevent incidents of sexual harassment.
- To curb other illegal activities on campus.
The institutions have been asked to utilize available funds for installing CCTV cameras and submit a report to the department by July 21. By installing CCTV cameras, the government aims to create a safer and more secure environment for students in higher education institutions.
