BENGALURU: With traffic congestion increasing in the city with every passing day, the government is coming up with various plans and projects to reduce traffic density. The construction of a tunnel road near Hebbal at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore, which was announced in the state budget last week, has now become a hot topic for discussion.
Now, in addition to that, a feasibility report is being prepared for constructing a tunnel road in Yeshwantpur, Goraguntepalya. A discussion is also on whether to construct a tunnel or a flyover because the Metro line passes near Goraguntepalya. While a double road up to Sumanahalli was being considered, the increasing traffic in Yeshwantpur and Gorgunteoalya has prompted the authorities to look for alternatives.
The construction of tunnel roads in Goraguntepalya and Yeshwantpur is on the discussion table. Deputy CM D K Shivakumar mentioned the tunnel road projects during the Janaspandana programme held on Sunday.
Shivakumar said, “We are making honest efforts to ease the traffic problem and save travel time. A feasibility report is being prepared for constructing a tunnel in Yeshwantpur, Goruguntepalya as proposed by Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh. We are planning to construct tunnel roads in order to boost the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ project and increase its value”.
