MANGALURU: Following the suicide of Akanksha, a young aerospace engineer from Dharmasthala, the Jalandhar police have arrested the alleged boyfriend and Punjab college professor Bijil Mathew on charges of abetting suicide. He had been absconding after the incident.
The Lovely Professional College, Punjab where Mathew worked as professor, has also suspended him after the incident. A case had been registered against Mathew for abetting Akanksha’s suicide.
The mortal remains are expected to arrive in Dharmasthala tomorrow morning. The body will be transported from Punjab to Delhi by road, then from Delhi to Bengaluru by flight, and finally from Bengaluru to Dharmasthala by road.
The Jalandhar police have registered another FIR in the case, following pressure from Akanksha’s family. Akanksha’s parents have alleged that University Professor Bijil Mathew (45) was responsible for their daughter’s death.
The police have found that Akanksha had sent a message to Bijil Mathew before her death, indicating that she would take her own life. The police have investigated Akanksha’s mobile phone and found evidence of the message.
The chief secretary of the Karnataka government has asked the Punjab government to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
