BELAGAVI: With tensions over the border issue simmering, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar held a meeting with Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) activists at the Tilakawadi police station on Friday evening.
Addressing the meeting, Alok Kumar appealed to both groups to maintain peace and not to disturb the law and order situation. Belagavi was expected to grow faster than Hubballi-Dharwad, but constant friction and irritants have hampered growth, he pointed out. The issue is in the Supreme Court and all should await the verdict, he added.
He also advised the MES to stop observing Black Day on Kannada Rajyotsava Day and the Maha Melava during the winter session of the state legislature. Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda faction) state convener Mahadev Talwar, district president Deepak Gudaganatti, Shivarame Gowda faction district president Wajid Hirekodi, MES former MLA Manohar Kinekar, leaders Prakash Maragale, Vikas Kalaghatagi and others participated in the meeting.
