BENGALURU: There has been a steady rise in Adenovirus cases among children with 69 cases having been detected in the state.
The weather department officials had hinted at an early summer and the Health Department had released health guidelines due to the heat wave in the state. At present, a total of 69 Adenovirus cases have been reported out of which 13 cases are from Bengaluru.
What is an Adenoviruses?
- Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that typically cause respiratory illnesses such as a common cold, conjunctivitis (pink eye), bronchitis or pneumonia.
- Adenoviral respiratory infections are most common in the late winter, spring, and early summer.
What are the symptoms of adenoviruses?
- Fever
- Common cold or flu-like symptoms
- Sore throat
- Acute bronchitis
- Pneumonia
- Acute gastroenteritis
“Many parents say that their kids have a fever, cough and stomach pain, as well as redness in the eyes. When we tested the children, we came to know that many kids had Adenovirus infection. Many children and adults who get this infection will have high fever that lasts at least five days. There are chances of pneumonia and if the fever does not subside after five days, it is important to show them to a paediatrician”, said Dr Rakshay Shetty, Paediatric Intensivist at Rainbow Children’s Hospital.
