BENGALURU: A week after serving a legal notice to film producer K C N Kumar, popular actor Kiccha Sudeep personally attended the ACMM Court near Corporation Circle on Saturday and filed a defamation case of Rs 10 crore against Kumar. The next hearing will be held on July 17.
Earlier, Sudeep had issued a legal notice to producer K C N Kumar as the latter had alleged that Sudeep had taken money six years ago to act in a movie, but had not given a call sheet yet. Following the aallegation, Sudeep issued a legal notice stating that Kumar should prove all his allegations or apologise and pay Rs 10 crore for defamation within three days. The actor had also threatened to file a criminal case against producer M N Suresh.
With no response coming from Kumar, Sudeep has now decided to take the legal route. Kumar had alleged that Sudeep had taken money from him and cheated him. Kumar also accused Suddep of torturing him by not giving him the call sheet. This had created a storm in the film industry and Kiccha Sudeep took it as a challenge.
Speaking to the media after filing the petition, Sudeep only said, “I will give answer in court to whoever wants an answer from me”.
Responding to questions regarding the speculation that Surappa Babu was behind the controversy, Sudeep said, “I can only say may God bless them. The truth has to be revealed and some issues need to be cleared. I feel I am going in the right direction. When I came as an artist, I did not say that I would solve everyone’s problems. I came to the court because someone spoke wrongly about me. I am ready to come again”.
“No matter who accused me, I will get a befitting answer from the court. Be it a lie or a truth, it should come out. If the case goes to court, everything will be fine. I have not opened a charity shop just because I am an artist and help everyone. The media should be used properly and spoken words should not cross a limit. The dispute will be settled where it is supposed to be. Jack Manju has already replied to the controversy on my behalf and I should not set a bad example for others. No one can take aay the fame, name or stardom that I have earned. If anything has happened as such, it means I haven’t achieved anything”, Sudeep added.
Later, producer N Kumar spoke to Public TV in this regard and said, “I received the court notice on July 13. It was in English and I don’t know English. So, I took an appointment today to meet a lawyer, but he has gone to court. I don’t know what they have accused me of. I will respond after taking legal advice”.
“I am a very patient producer and I shared my pain with the media. I have produced more than 30 films and distributed hundreds of films as a distributor. I also understand what is right and wrong. All I can say is that he should keep his word”, said Kumar.
“Normally, whatever problems arise, we approach the film chamber of commerce and I too went there. He did not come even though I was called to film chamber to sort out the issue by talking to each other. I will consult my lawyer about this”, Kumar added.
