BENGALURU: Sandalwood actor Diganth, who suffered injuries in the neck and back while doing back flips on a Goa beach, is doing well and may be discharged either today or tomorrow, according to Manipal Hospital where he is being treated.
After undergoing preliminary treatment at a hospital in Goa, Diganth was airlifted to Bengaluru on Tuesday. A surgery was performed on Tuesday itself and Diganth is feeling better, according to spinal surgeon Dr S Vidyadhar.
Explaining about the ordeal, Diganth’s wife and actor Aindrita Ray said, “We finished our shooting schedule and were on a vacation. This resort is about three hours from Goa. Digant likes to do somersaults, but this time, the landing was wrong and he sustained injuries in the neck. We sent his MRI and X-ray reports to Manipal Hospital. Due to his health regimen, he was able to withstand it.”
“We didn’t have much time, so we airlifted him. I want to thank the government of Goa and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for airlifting him to Bengaluru. I also thank Dr Vidyadhar and the Manipal Hospital management for taking good care of Diganth. The surgery has gone of well and he’s on the road to recovery. I also thank all the fans”, Aindrita said.
Spinal surgeon Dr Vidyadhar told the media, “He has recovered very well and was walking by himself around 10 am today. Injuries and surgeries need time to heal and he’ll back to normal soon. I have had patients who have suffered similar injury and gone back to aggressive sports. Diganth had suffered bone fracture and dislocation, but the bone is fixed well and he’s safe now. After all the attending doctors discuss, he can be discharged.”
Diganth’s father Krishnamurthy said the actor is healthy and there is no cause for worry. His father-in-law Dr Ray too said the injuries were minor.
