CHAMARAJANAGAR: Actor and activist Chetan Kumar, aka Chetan Ahimsa, on Sunday said that reservation should also be given in the Indian cricket team while alleging that 70 per cent of the players belong to the upper castes.
The actor was a speaker at ‘Reservation Representation or Economic Empowerment’, a one-day symposium conducted by the Bahujana Volunteer Force. He said that the struggle of Vokkaligas to raise reservation from 4 per cent to 12 per cent is acceptable. There is nothing wrong with asking for reservation in proportion to the population of a society. But the Panchmashalis’ struggle for 2A reservation is selfish, he noted.
In the Indian cricket team, 70 percent of the players belong to the upper castes. Reservation should be implemented in the selection of cricketeres also, he demanded. Since 2016, the African cricket team has given reservation to six black cricketers. Similarly, reservation for SC and ST communities should be given in the Indian cricket team, he asserted.
