Dasara elephant Arjuna was laid to rest with full state honours in Sakleshpur taluk on Tuesday.

HASSAN: It has been one year since Dasara howdah elephant Arjuna died in an operation to capture a rogue elephant in the Dabballikatte forest in Yeslur hobli of Sakleshpur taluk, but the memorial which was to come up where the elephant had collapsed is yet to see the light of day.

Work on the statue has not been completed yet.

On December 4, 2023, Arjuna had died after suffering serious injuries during an operation to capture a lone tusker. After the elephant was buried, it had been decided to erect a memorial for Arjuna at Balle. However, the statue remains incomplete.

The memorial was initially slated to be inaugurated on Wednesday, and Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre was scheduled to visit the spot. However, as the statue has not been completed, the event has been postponed.
