BENGALURU: To curb indiscriminate award of internal assessment marks in the upcoming SSLC exams, the Department of School Education and Literacy is coming up with various measures including setting up taluk-level committees.

With a view the increase the pass percentage, educational institutions have allegedly been awarding marks indiscriminately for internal assessment. Of the total, 20 marks are earmarked for internal assessment.

The taluk-level committees will now go into the internal assessment and award full marks only to deserving candidates. The committees will have three members including a high school headmaster, science teacher and arts/language teacher and will scrutinise the internal assessment marks of students from all government, aided and private schools.

The committees will visit the schools and also look into the preparatory exams conducted and other activities undertaken. The committees will recommend changes in internal assessment marks where necessary and if the teachers do not act on it, it will submit a report to the authorities by February 20.
