MANDYA: A man committed suicide at Konnapura village in Malavalli taluk in the district after his mother ended her life due to alleged harassment from a microfinance company. The deceased son has been identified as Ranjith (31).
The microfinance firm had seized the family’s property, leading to Ranjith’s mother Prema consuming pesticide and taking her own life four days ago. Ranjith, who was already ailing and had a disability, was depressed by his mother’s death.
Unable to cope with the loss and uncertainty about his future, he jumped into the Halagur lake and took his own life. Ranjith’s decomposed body was found in the lake today, and it is suspected that he took his own life on the same day as his mother.
The family is in a state of shock and grief. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Halagur police station.
