Six, including four women, held for extorting money from youth looking for prospective bride

BENGALURU: The Hebbal police have arrested six people, including four women, for honeytrapping a youth on the pretext of arranging a meeting with a prospective bride and extorting Rs 50,000 from him while posing a police officers.

The arrested are Geetha, Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Leelavathi, Harish and Venkatesh. One of the arrested, Manjula, was known to the victim and he had told her to inform him of any prospective bride.

On January 20, the youth called Manjula and inquired about prospective brides when she directed him to her friend Vijayalakshmi’s house in Hebbal. There Vijayalakshmi introduced the youth to Leelavathi and stepped out of the house, leaving the two in her house.

In the meantime, Geetha, Harish and Venkatesh arrived at the house posing as police officers and threatened to arrest the youth and Leelavathi for allegedly indulging in prostitution. They then forced the youth to make a UPI money transfer of Rs 50,000. Following the incident, the youth lodged a complaint with the Hebbal police who arrested the accused.
